Giving Kids a Confident Start to the School Year

That’s a wrap on another successful Back 2 School Braids & Fades event 👏🏽. This past weekend, our San Antonio and Austin boutiques were filled with energy, laughter, and fresh looks as kids got ready to head back to school.

For us at Kicking It, back-to-school is more than just new sneakers and gear—it’s about making sure every student feels confident walking into the classroom. That’s why we host this annual event to provide free haircuts, braids, and essential school supplies for kids across our community.

Why Braids & Fades Matter

A fresh cut or new style can do more than just change how you look—it can change how you feel. When students step into the classroom with confidence, it sets the tone for their school year. Pair that with the right supplies, and they’re equipped to focus on learning instead of worrying about what they don’t have.

This year’s event drew dozens of families, creating a true community atmosphere where parents, volunteers, and local businesses came together to give kids a strong start.

Events like this aren’t possible without the support of our partners, volunteers, and staff. We’re grateful to everyone who donated school supplies, time, and energy to make this year’s event such a success.
