Following the excitement of the KD 4 “UT” release, Dr. Greg Grovey keeps the Longhorn energy going with a look back at the Nike Air Force 1 “Monarch” — a sneaker that celebrates Texas spirit from top to sole.

Dropped in 2023, this AF1 arrived just in time for football season and featured signatures from former UT NIL athletes, making it a collectible piece of Austin sneaker history.

Why It’s a Classic:
As Dr. Grovey puts it, this pair “flew under the radar” when it dropped — but quickly became one of the most requested Austin releases after selling out. It’s a clean, heritage-driven design that perfectly fits the Texas football season vibe.

In Greg’s Words 🗣️

“This weekend was crazy — we had the KD 4 Longhorn Edition drop, and the energy was all Texas. So I had to bring out something that represents that same spirit for Air Force Friday.”

“This pair came out in 2023 in the Monarch colorway — or what we call it here in Austin, burnt orange. The shoe sold okay at first, but once it was gone, everybody wanted it. Classic case of ‘you don’t know what you got till it’s gone.’”

“It’s got that burnt orange leather around the toe cap and heel, plus nylon hits through the midfoot and tongue. Simple, clean, and repping Texas pride. And what makes this one special — these pairs were signed by some of our former UT NIL athletes.”
